Exciting Times for Dementia Disco

I am writing this sat in my big winter jumper, waiting for my cup of tea to warm my hands up. Where has the summer gone?! It was sunny and hot one minute and then suddenly we’re in a cold spell with threats of snow! Anyway enough about the weather, it’s been a while since I posted on here so there is lots of news to share with you.

First of all I am very excited to announce that I am now the Dementia Disco CEO. I would like to say a huge thank you to The Fore, who have provided the funding to allow me to do this. The Fore’s mission is to ‘To turbo-charge exceptional small charities that are transforming lives and society’ and I feel very privileged to be one of their chosen charities. I am also very grateful to be given the opportunity to grow and develop the disco and to do this as my job is the cherry on top. My son started school in September and although I’ve loved being a stay at home mum during the pre school years, I am now ready to start this new chapter. Here is a photo of me below, busy at work at DDHQ!

One of my main goals for the upcoming year is to increase the number of discos across the Stockport area. In order to do this we need more volunteers. I’m going to be at the Sector 3 Volunteer Fair on 18th September 9am-4pm in the Merseyway Shopping Centre (outside Specsavers). If you’re interested in volunteering for our amazing charity then come and find the Dementia Disco table and we can have a chat. If you can’t make the event then you can find out more on our volunteer page or you can contact me here.

If you’re interested in attending a disco and want to find out more about it I will be at the Viaduct Care Event on Wednesday 25th September 10am-3pm at the Ladybridge Connect in Cheadle Hulme. Please find a leaflet about this below. This is an opportunity for people living with dementia to find out about all the wonderful support groups and resources that are available in the Stockport area. I will have a stand there so come and say hello and I’ll tell you all about us.

My other main goal is to launch our Mobile Discos in Care Homes. We’ve been trialing this with 2 Stockport care homes over the summer and the feedback has been really positive. Have a look at the photos below. It was lovely to see the residents out of their chairs, smiling and dancing. If you’re a care home and are interested in learning more then you can reach out to me here.

I’m also organising our first fundraising event with details to follow soon but it will certainly involve live music and dancing so watch this space because it will be wonderful to see you there!

Finally I’ve been making some changes to our website to make it easier to use, easier to interact with us, and ultimately better serve our community. If you have a moment it would be great if you could check it out here and let me know what you think.

Right that’s it for now. My hands are a little warmer thanks to the tea. Keep warm everyone and I’ll see you on a dancefloor very soon!
