We’re Launching Our 5th Dementia Disco in Southam!

The wonderful disco team at Galnos House!

We're absolutely bursting with excitement to announce the expansion of the Dementia Disco family! Starting this month, we're heading to Southam, Warwickshire, to launch our fifth regular event, further broadening our mission to bring joy and music to communities across the country.

This new venture is a wonderful collaboration with the dedicated team at Galanos House, a Royal British Legion care home renowned for its award-winning, person-centred care.

A Community Partnership at Galanos House

Our Southam disco is being spearheaded by the incredible staff at Galanos House, Jo-Anne Wilson, Shelley Fardon, Jane Tuck, and Lucy Westland, alongside their fantastic team of volunteers.

Galanos House is more than just a venue; it is a hub of support that includes a dedicated dementia care wing and a vibrant Community Hub & Cafe. Their expertise in creating a "home from home" environment makes them the perfect partners for our inclusive disco experience.

What to Expect at the Southam Disco

Like all our events, the Southam Disco is designed to be a safe, uplifting, and completely free space for people living with dementia and those who support them.

Who is invited? People living with dementia, their carers, family, and friends. Children are also very welcome to join the fun!

What’s included? In addition to the music and dancing, a free meal, tea, and coffee are provided for all guests.

When? The 4th Saturday of every month, from 5pm to 7pm.

The Run Your Own Disco Revolution!

Our gorgeous Manjeet making shapes on the dancefloor!

From Regional Roots to a National Movement:

Following our update in January regarding the incredible support from The Clothworkers’ Foundation, we're proud to share exactly how this one-off capital grant is being put to work. This funding represents a pivotal investment in our infrastructure, allowing us to scale our mission from a regional success story into a nationwide movement across England and Wales.

Building the "Disco Pipeline"

Over the next 12 months, we're overhauling our digital backbone to create a seamless "Run Your Own Disco" process. By investing in an improved CRM, advanced software, and an enhanced website, we're building a "disco pipeline" designed to make starting a new event as light-touch as possible for our central team and incredibly user-friendly for volunteers.

Our goal is to use technology to remove administrative barriers, ensuring that our volunteers can spend less time on paperwork and more time on what truly matters: the music and the dancing.

The Scaling Up Advisory Board: Shaping the Future

We're currently in the process of interviewing for our brand-new Scaling Up Advisory Board. We've been overwhelmed by the calibre of applicants, which includes experts from the dementia charity sector, legal and franchising professionals, and business owners who share our core values. Crucially, the board will also feature individuals with lived experience of dementia to ensure our growth remains person-centred. The team’s first important task will be to rigorously test the "Run Your Own Disco" process and review all associated documentation. By doing so, they will ensure we are building the most robust process possible, maintaining the high quality and safety standards that define Dementia Disco as we expand nationwide.

Full Steam Ahead: 20 Discos in Waiting!

Work is now in full force, and the "Run Your Own Disco" process is almost ready for testing. Thanks to our recent feature on BBC Breakfast, we already have 20 potential discos in our virtual pipeline. As soon as the system is live, we will contact these lead volunteers to begin their journey.

In the meantime, our physical expansion continues apace with three further discos about to launch:

Seahouses, Northumberland: Starting 7th March.

Stretford, Manchester: Starting 10th April.

Timperley, Manchester: Starting 1st May.

Look out for more news on our Advisory Board and these new locations in next month’s edition!

Our vision is to have a world where every person living with dementia dances every day.

Our mission is to inspire a national movement of joy by equipping communities, volunteers, and care homes with the tools and training to host inclusive discos that foster connection for everyone affected by dementia

Until the next time keep dancing!
