The Monkuleles performed at the Heaton Mersey disco on Saturday night and a wonderful time was had by all. They played a range of classic songs like ‘You Are My Sunshine’ and ‘I Wan’na Be Like You’ from the Jungle Book. This song was accompanied by an orangutan which the kids loved! It was fantastic to have some live music at the disco and the dance floor was soon packed. Everyone was singing along and shaking their maracas.

One of the most memorable moments was watching a family, who had brought their mum, with dementia, to the disco. Their mum, who lives in a care home, was previously sitting unresponsive in the home. It took the family a while to get her to open her eyes but when she got to the disco they got her standing and moving her arms to the music. It was so moving to see a mum, with her 2 daughters and teenage grandson dancing together and enjoying themselves. An amazing example of how powerful music can be.
